Rebecca walked with The Jackson Laboratory summer students as a "jock" because in America, you can be who ever you want! Let's hear it for America...Happy Birthday!

4th. of July Parade

Last minute touches on "The Sneaker" we pulled in the parade last week. We handed out over 600 flyers to let people know about the walk on 10.10.10@10! Our plan was to walk in the Flamingo Parade also but sickness and weather concerns dampened our parade but our spirit is still high...

JDRF Walk 2010

Please join our walk for diabetes next year. Start organizing your teams now. The date is 10-10-10 at 10:00 am. We are starting to organize committees and if there is one that you might like to participate in or chair, please let us know. Your help is so appreciated and needed. We are looking for a food chair who might be able to rally a few restaurants to set up stations at the end of the walk with small food items. Could be a good way for folks to advertise their shops as well as doing something great for the community. We do have several companies already interested in helping like SWH water and AB Naturals.

JDRF Walk in Massachusetts - Six Flags - 10.18.09

It was a very cold day and unfortunately the kids couldn't go on the rides, but what spirit amongst all the teams there to raise money for a cure! I was fortunate to have many of my family members there and my sister and her husband did a fantastic job organizing their team and raising a lot of money for JDRF and research for a cure! I am so proud of them!

How to sign up to walk or form a team!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR TEAM CAPTAINS TO CREATE A TEAM FOR THE
MDI WALK IN THE PARK
to take place
10/10/10 at 10:00 a.m.

Go to www.jdrf.org
Look for this option on the homepage:

Walk Central:
Register Login Donate

Click on the “Register” option
On the right-hand side of the screen, you will see an option to “Register for a Walk Now”. Select “Maine” as the State and then click on “Find Walk”
Click on “Portland” (which is scheduled for September 19th). Since we have not been approved as an official walk site this year, we need to register under the Portland walk. Information about the Portland walk will appear.
Click on “Register for this Walk”
Complete the registration information as prompted.
IMPORTANT: Pay close attention when completing the “Participation Information” portion of the registration screen! All MDI teams must be careful to register for this year’s walk with a special code (identifier) so that the JDRF can determine how much money our site raises in 2010. If you do not use this special code, the money that your team raises will be credited to the Portland walk and we may not meet the goal of raising $25,000 (set by the JDRF) to be considered an official site in future years.
When it prompts you to Choose a Team, please be sure to select “Create a New Team”.
When creating your team for 2010, you must include the code (MDI) at the end of your team name. For example, MDI Marchers (MDI). Again, if you fail to register with the (MDI) code, the money you raise will get credited to the Portland walk.

There are several new options available this year for recruiting friends and family to join your team by using enhanced walk center pages and social networking sites (Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc.).
Once your team name appears only once and includes the code (MDI) on the JDRF website, check out all the tools and form letters that are available to use to recruit friends and family to walk on your team. Most of these tools and letters can be personalized and may generate a greater response to your invitation to join our enthusiastic group on 10/10/10.
Inform your walkers that the walk is not “pledge-based” and is not a race/run. Participants can walk as much or as little as they want and it’s helpful to let potential walkers know that. If they would prefer to do something “behind the scenes”, encourage them to volunteer to assist in various activities the day of the event.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR JOINING A TEAM FOR THE WALK

Follow steps 1 through 7 to the left then…
When you get to the “Participation Information” portion of the registration screen, you want to select the option “Team Walker”.
When it prompts you to Choose a Team, select the team you want to walk with that has (MDI) for a suffix from the drop down menu.
You should only have one option to select from in the drop down menu for “Team Captain”
